Information about these maps: Theses maps are Web-based reproductions of a series of historic growth maps about Oregon that were created by Allan Cartography and published in the second edition of the Atlas of Oregon, by the University of Oregon Press, in 2001.
The cartographers calculated historic growth of dense settlement in these cities using historic maps, aerial photographs, streets patterns, architectural styles, and landscape plantings. The continuous built-up area shown for 2000 generally corresponds to a density of about 5,000 people per square mile.
Note: Special thanks to Seattle's CommEn Space, who provided the topographical maps for these animations.
