Caption: Today on the Columbia, salmon return in only a fraction--perhaps 5 percent--of their historic abundance. And because most salmon on the Columbia today are hatchery-raised fish, the true picture of salmon is even less rosy. Wild Chinook may only now be 1 percent of their historic numbers.
