How can we make the Northwest a climate hero; prescription drugs take-back program pilot; update on PBDEs.

Northwesterners are increasingly united on the need for immediate action on global warming. Enough talk about the problem--we want solutions. But how? Which package of solutions make the most sense for the region? What can ordinary citizens do? Sightline is tackling these questions by analyzing the most promising climate policies out there and compiling a set of primers and graphics aimed at helping the Northwest make the smartest choices. Tools for media, decisionmakers, and for you, are on Sightline’s climate policy project page. We’ve been flushing left-over medicines to keep them out of the wrong hands. But those flushed drugs are showing up in 80 percent of streams surveyed; they’re affecting fish and wildlife, and maybe us as well. Washington State’s got a pilot program to keep those medicines out of all the wrong places with drop-off boxes at local pharmacies. It keeps people and wildlife healthier, and encourages manufacturers to take responsibility for their products. Read more. Turns out Boeing can do without PBDEs for the Dreamliner, but the chemicals could be making your housecat sick. And there's concern that cats are exposed to PBDEs in ways similar to how toddlers are. |
