Building a clean energy economy with cap and trade.
Who are the climate leaders?Building a clean energy economy with cap and trade. Are you seeing green? That’s because climate leaders across the continent are fighting against global warming by adopting smart energy policies that help shift away from dependence on fossil fuels. These states and provinces are putting a legal limit on carbon pollution and designing market-based programs to reduce pollution economically. This strategy is called “Cap and Trade.” Significantly, all this green represents more than half of North America's population and economic activity. Why are these leaders choosing cap and trade to curb global warming pollution? Not only is cap and trade tested and proven, it creates a win-win situation: while rewarding efficiency and innovation, it reduces the amount of money that is sent overseas to pay for oil. When we keep our energy dollars at home, we boost local economies and create clean energy jobs in our communities. In the bargain, we kick an unhealthy – and expensive – fossil fuel habit. Most of all a solid cap is the only way to guarantee that we protect the climate for ourselves and future generations. Read more on climate solutions: |
