New Sightline Video: Our Chance at a Clean, Green Economic Recovery |
This November has brought us a unique, challenging, and hopeful moment in
Cascadia's history. While global financial systems are failing, leaving families
and businesses in tough situations, the recent US election also brought record
voter turnout, outcomes that were both historic and promising for Cascadia’s
future.
This economic crisis is a trying time for our region, but there is potential for opportunity. That's why Sightline is redoubling its efforts to promote green-collar jobs and efficient, effective climate policy that is fair for everyone.
How can we seize this pivotal moment? In this five-minute video, Sightline’s executive director Alan Durning talks about the opportunity for a clean, green economic recovery that can generate tens of thousands of jobs and help us speed progress on climate change.
Economic Turnaround: Sightline’s new series on fixing the economy
As New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman pointed out recently, the economic crisis shouldn’t be the end of green. Green should be the way we end the economic crisis. But how do we do it? In our new blog series, Sightline researchers take a look at the current economic events through the lens of viable and realistic solutions that can help us live within our means. Here are some of the key posts:
- Hope in Economic Crisis: The impacts of this economic storm may be severe, but we can turn this economic upheaval into an opportunity.
- Living Within Our Means: Alan Durning on why the economic crisis is fundamentally about sustainability, and how "lots now" must give way to "some forever."
- Retrofits For All!: An organizing model for neighborhood-wide energy upgrades and new jobs.
