Bradbury Cascadia Scorecard by andrew joel — last modified 03/14/2007 at 11:32 AM

Without measurement, we don't know where we are or how we're doing. Sightline Institute's Cascadia Scorecard gives us powerful measures reaching many aspects of our lives. It is invaluable.

Duncan Sightline by andrew joel — last modified 06/25/2007 at 05:31 PM
As a 78%-clean-water creature who is 100% dead without that water and its cleanliness, I am 100% grateful for the truth-telling, sustainable sanity of Sightline!
Gregory Cascadia Scorecard by andrew joel — last modified 02/08/2007 at 10:27 PM

Blumenauer Cascadia Scorecard LONG by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

Cascadia is not just our home; it is the epicenter of some of the most innovative and important work on sustainability and livable communities to date. Sightline Institute's Cascadia Scorecard is a prime example of yet another pioneering approach, providing the critical analysis we need to evaluate our progress on these important issues. I look forward to the day when the rest of America is so equipped to evaluate their own efforts in creating more livable communities.

Orians Cascadia Scorecard, children LONG by andrew joel — last modified 08/02/2006 at 04:36 PM

In a world of information overload, the Cascadia Scorecard provides a much-needed focus on the big picture. Sightline has sifted through hundreds of possibilities and identified seven indicators that capture fundamentally important components of the environment of the Northwest. If we pay attention to trends in these indicators, and respond appropriately, we should pass on to our children a better environment and the higher quality of life made possible by it.

Steinbrueck Cascadia Scorecard by andrew joel — last modified 05/23/2007 at 01:40 PM

The Cascadia Scorecard represents a welcome paradigm shift in how we measure success for our region. As an elected official, I believe it is step in the right direction in improving our overall quality of life.

Ho Sprawl and smart growth by andrew joel — last modified 04/10/2007 at 06:37 PM

The co-release of Sprawl and Smart Growth in Greater Vancouver (released September 2002) with Sightline was a fabulous success that gained tremendous media attention as well as interest from local government officials. Benefits of compact and mixed-use densities were demonstrated, as well as the effectiveness of our Agricultural Land Reserve. A value-added component to the release of the report is the ongoing opportunity to present the findings in presentations I've been making to a variety of audiences including the Vancouver Board of Trade, community forums, and the academic community.

Contorer Sightline by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

Northwest leaders really listen to Sightline, so I know that my major donations to Sightline make a difference. I support Sightline because they are about making real, lasting changes. Other groups fight the wrongs they see, but Sightline identifies the root problems and solutions. I support Sightline at a major level because they get beyond rhetoric and focus on real change. Sightline is about really improving our society, not just arguing and protesting. Sightline understands that a better future combines economy and environment, instead of pitting one against the other.

Keating Solutions by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

As a mediator, I know about conflict. Problems can't be solved just by thinking about them. I've been impressed by how Sightline joins complex environmental data and diverse communities to generate dialogue and new ideas. I joined Sightline's Cascadia Stewards Council to support excellent thinking--together.

Luce Sightline by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

We've pledged to contribute $3,600 to Sightline over three years (plus a match from our employer) because their research data is used by many non-profit and government organizations to shape environmental programs and policy - with Sightline you're not supporting just one organization, you're supporting many.

Bradbury Indicators by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

(These indicators) are not perfect, but they are really indicative of what's going on. I think you can't know if you are moving in a positive direction without measurements.

Flowers Sightline publications LONG by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

In my work on land use and growth-related issues in my county, I often turn to Sightline's publications for ways to take complex issues and frame them for the general public. Information is power, but information is easy to drown in or not ever have time to learn to swim through it in today's fast-paced world. Sightline's publications hook me with stories that can be shared neighbor to neighbor. They give me hope and a more articulate voice in a complex world.

Thomas Sightline children by andrew joel — last modified 03/16/2006 at 03:35 PM

I want my son to grow up in an even better Northwest than the one I knew and loved as a child. With all the pressures on the area (population, transportation, economy), the only way for that to happen is for the region to adopt more of Sightline's common sense sustainability approach.
