Photovoice Research: Photo Conversations about Climate
This Photovoice manual was created by Kristin Gustafson and Fahed Al Sumait. The manual will be especially relevant for those interested in the environment, civic engagement, visual arts, or other related topics.
Photovoice is an action-research technique where people are given cameras and asked to capture images of events, problems, or concerns in their community in ways that can encourage dialogue and promote social change. Additionally, the technique has a number of possibilities for community organizing and messaging research.
Photo Conversations about Climate: Engaging teachers and policymakers through photography and narrative outlines the Photovoice technique and some of its various applications. It also includes examples from a Photovoice project conducted in 2009 in Seattle that brought together policy advocates and K-12 educators into dialog on the issue of climate change, green jobs, and sustainable living.
