Northwest Coal Exports

Sightline is releasing a new research backgrounder today: it’s basically a “frequently asked questions” about coal exports from the Northwest.

In “Northwest Coal Exports” we set down the basic facts of the case, including how much coal the US currently exports, what the new proposals involve, and what the pollution consequences might be. We also take a hard look at the scientific literature on the health impacts of coal dust, and we draw some lessons from existing coal export facilities elsewhere in North America.

Our backgrounder may not answer every conceivable question, but we do hope it lays a solid foundation for those seeking to understand the basic elements.
