Another Note to RSS Subscribers

Sightline Editor

June 13, 2011

We’re having some issues with our RSS feeds, so if you subscribe to our blog feed, please be patient. We’re trying to diagnose a double-posting problem. So far it seems like it’s only a problem for people using Google Reader.

We’re working hard to figure it out, but things might be a little messy for the next day or so.

(Our RSS feed URLs are available here: https://www.sightline.org/rss-feeds/. You can try re-adding the blog RSS feed to your reader to see if it cleans things up. It did for me, except for some double posted items last week. It seems to be OK going forward.)

  1. I don’t do RSS feeds, but I thought I’d comment on the changes. It seems that the blog has taken top priority, with the headlines given less space and presence. I mainly looked at the headlines, and it appears that two things I think were there before are now not there — the option to include some text from the article with each headline, and a way to get all headlines for a particular category (i.e. population, energy, etc.). The categories associated with articles have no link, and I can’t find any preference page or button to change the settings to get some lead text. These are pretty important to me. Popular blog posts and comments are not. Any way to get some more flexibility in the site so that different users can get what they need? Thanks!!! Bob

    • Hi Bob –

Sorry for the confusion. It sounds like your best bet would be to head over the news page where you can get headlines and summaries. Unfortunately, we decided to discontinue news by topic. After looking at the habits of most of our users, we saw that not many people used those pages, so we decided to invest the time spent maintaining those elsewhere.

Hope that helps, and thanks for commenting.
