Current and estimated historical population numbers for Cascadia's Selkirk caribou herd.
Date range: 1990-2005
Caption: Caribou are highly endangered in the lower 48 United States and British Columbia. The remaining population in the Northwest consists of the tiny Selkirk herd. The only real chance for caribou to bounce back will be improved habitat and more of it; strict conservation for old-growth forests; and careful conservation and restoration in areas that can return to old forest conditions.
