There are proven fixes that we can start doing to bring our democracy into the 21st century and make it work for the people.

Last week, Sightline senior researcher Kristin Eberhard spoke about how to make voting systems more democratic on Speak Up Speak Out Radio. Archaic voting systems are crippling democracy and disenfranchising voters. In this interview, Kristin examines pitfalls of the current winner-take-all voting system and proposes how alternative voting systems, such as proportional representation voting, brings power back to ordinary people. Proportional representation voting helps elect people who better reflect their constituents’ interests, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and minimize partisan gridlock.

Kristin also describes the major elements of the the Washington Government Accountability Act, I-1464, which will be on the Washington state ballot this November.
