In case you weren’t aware, western Washington is coming up on prime rain garden planning season! Curious about what a rain garden is, or how to go about planting one on your property or near your home? Take a little inspiration from the video below, which explains the benefits of rain gardens in the city and how, if you’re a Seattle resident, you can seek support from the city’s RainWise program and other resources to support your efforts!

Check out our stormwater series for simple steps towards curbing toxic runoff, and find out even more at 12000raingardens.org and 700milliongallons.org.

Bonus note: After publishing this article, we learned that Seattle Tilth runs a free Garden Hotline, funded by Seattle Public Utilities and King County, to answer all your rain garden questions and anything else garden-related you might want to ask about. They’ll also be running master composter and soil builder programs soon, open to new applicants in February.
